I set my alarm for 6:00 a.m, beep beep!!! it went off exactly that time, we were to meet at the rendezvous point (Galadima Gate, Gwarinpa) by 8:00 a.m. It was a struggle getting up as mother nature blessed the land with rain the night before and the wanderlust girl was really enjoying the warmth her bed was providing 😴. I kept on snoozing the worrisome alarm till i checked the time and it was 7:00 a.m, i wish i had a recording so you guys can see how i flew up from my bed haha i would never allow sleep take away what i was going to experience, never, ever 💪
We set out by about 9:25 a.m due to unexpected delay, the initial plan was to leave by 8:05 a.m but excuse me we are Nigerians!😏 The journey was smooth and fun, Strides Adventure Club organized cars to convey us to the location, it was a good time of listening to music, eating small chops and laughing about random stuff. We passed the famous Zuma Rock with it's scary one eye and bald head lol Ahh it was a beautiful site! Niger state is really big by the way, it welcomed us with so many hills and green landscape
Sneak Peak History:
Gurara waterfalls was discovered by a Gwari hunter called Buba in 1745 who was travelling from Zaria to hunt before some Europeans discovered it in 1925 then turned it into a recreation centre. Gurara waterfalls was worshiped by people living in the community and it is said to have been named after two deities Gura and Rara. It spans about 300 meters across and 30 meters in height, it has it's highest peak between April and November.
Gurara Falls, Niger State received us into her arms at around 11:40 a.m, the journey should have been shorter but we spent about 30 minutes in Suleja trying to use the ATM and get other stuff done. We got to the entrance and the club sorted out our gate fee and paid for a tour guide to take us round. Guyysss the view is mesmerizing, God is indeed great! The current was out of this world plus it's rainy season so the tides are really high at this time of the year.
Our tour guide was really helpful and nice, he took us round and showed us all the glory of the falls, I wasn't prepared to take a dip in the water because i didn't come with any swim wear or change of clothes but a gentleman in the club changed my mind! Shout out to Nach yoooo, he took some of us out of our comfort zones, it was the best decision ever! We had an amazing time playing in the water (The sand was very invasive, it went into parts it shouldn't have gone into lol). Someone started a water fight and we all got carried away in the water till we were exhausted.
The tour guide asked if we wanted to get closer to the falls itself and oh yes some of us followed him because we are adventurers; it was a different trail to the sight, we had to climb rocks and bend over trees, it was rather risky and steep but i would say that it was a thrilling and more adventurous experience compared to looking at the falls from a distance. It wasn't exactly easy but it was definitely worth the struggle.
Good day, picture perfect memories....After spending about 3 hours enjoying the scenery, we set out to eat. The club had organized for food and drinks which was part of the fee we paid for the tour, we had a delicious meal of fried rice and peppered chicken. Afterwards, we played games and enjoyed the rest of the afternoon as it came. One fun game we played was to test our patriotism as Nigerians; we had to say the second stanza of the national anthem and oh boy i said ''To lead our leaders right'' instead of ''To guide our leaders right" Covers face*
We all had a great time but we had to leave 😞. The journey back was awesome and we passed through a small town called Diko. They are notorious for having good chicken and beef suya plus food stuff and things in general are really cheap. Gurara was so much fun! i would definitely go back there when another opportunity comes up. We got to Abuja around 5 p.m, we met at where we had taken off and we said our last good byes.
